About the Doctor

Since I was young I have been fascinated with the wonder of the human mind and body.  Our ability to learn, grow and adapt to a variety of situations from athletic contests to social events is astounding.  Though my learning as a young person was primarily experiential, I knew the human body was something I wanted to understand better.

My undergraduate training in health and human performance led me through an in-depth and research-based study of the physiologic response the body undergoes during exercise both immediately, as well as in the long-term.  This helped me establish the understanding that what we do on a regular basis directly influences our health today and determines what it will be for the future.

I received my medical training at the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon - one of four professionally accredited Naturopathic medical programs in the United States.  There I was trained in the art and science of approaching health from a whole-person view - understanding that individual health is a complex expression of multiple factors including our internal selves and our external environment.

In practice I seek to identify and understand these underlying determinants of health so that treatment can be focused on building health and preventing disease.  I have found that following this approach not only relieves symptoms, but restores balance to the systems of the body improving health parameters on a number of levels.

I am happily married to Maile, my beautiful wife and talented partner of 6 years.  She pursues her passion teaching young people about health and physical activity at Oak Hills Elementary School.
